I’ve been thinking of a type of subscription system where the people that subscribe pay $1 every week to get like one chapter a day. For the people that don’t subscribe get their regular 2 chapters every week. Well based on how the donation system works then it’ll be $60 per chapter so that’ll be $420 every week so for this to actually benefit the translator and co. then more than 420 people need to subscribe so this only works for very popular novels that a lot of people really want to read. So you’re probably thinking, do the people that don’t subscribe get the chapters that are being paid by the subscribers? The answer is no. The subscribers will be able to get faster releases so every week they get 7 chapters and the non subscribers get 2 chapters. So lets say the novel that you subscribe to hasn’t started yet and has yet to release chapter one. For non subscribers they get chapters one and two in week 1 whereas subscribers get chapters one through seven in week 1.

    Subscribers Non-Subscribers
    Week 1- 1-7 1-2
    Week 2- 8-14 3-4
    Week 3- 15-21 5-6
    Week 4- 22-28 7-9

Well you get the idea. But like I said before at least 420 people need to subscribe if the Translator and co. get any benefits. This system doesn’t force anyone to subscribe as even if you don’t subscribe you get two chapters every week for free and the subscription fee is only $1 per week(Roughly $4/month). But there is a problem with this system and probably some of you have figured it out. The people that subscribe can just release the chapters that they have access to for the public, that want more chapters but don’t want to pay the super cheap subscription fee, for free. So basically people wouldn’t subscribe because they think that they can get the chapter for free from the people that do subscribe. Of course like I have previously stated at least 420 people must subscribe. You MUST find a way to prevent the subscriber chapters from being leaked. You must find a way to implement this system(Because I don’t think you can make a subscription system on word press). If you have the means to use this system( You know how to or know someone that can implement the subscriber system and have a way to prevent the subscriber chapters from being released) then you need to take a vote to see if people are actually willing to pay the subscription fee for the extra chapters. You absolutely NEED people that actually want to read the novel that you are translating. You also need the amount of people that are willing to subscribe to at the very least be 420 or if you want to count in those 2 chapters that non subscribers get then you need at the very least 300 people. And just to be safe if the amount of people that say that they are willing to pay the subscriber fee reach the required amount, when you actually do release the Subscriber System and the people that actually do subscribe don’t reach the required amount then you can just take down the subscriber system. The Translator and co. can implement a milestone system so that when they reach a specific amount of subscribers then the subscribers get extra chapters per week(Like if its 420 subscribers for 7 chapters every week then when the subscriber amount reaches 500 then it can be 9 chapters every week)

Now this system benefits both the readers AND the Translator and co.

    Benefits for Translator and Company:
-Depending on whether they want or don’t want to give the free two chapters to subscribers then they get $300-$420 every week and potentially even more which means that every chapter they translate is equivalent to one sponsored chapter. That equals to at least $1200-$1680+ every month.
-For every subscriber they get $4 every month.
-They have the motivation(money) to translate the chapters so subscribers can expect consistency in chapter releases.
-Don’t have to worry about the free chapters because they will be translated ahead of time for the subscribers.
-Can always translate more chapters to be prepared just in case real life happens.
-You’re not overworking yourself because its only one chapter every

    Benefits for Subscribers:
    -Get fast and consistent releases.
-For those of you with a tight budget, the subscription fee is extremely cheap($1/week).
-Instead of paying a translator to translate it for you for the price of around $0.14 for every word(For Ze Tian Ji its about ~$300 per chapter) you can subscribe which is a lot cheaper for the individual.
    -Do you need anything else?

Like every idea I have there is a downside.

-The quality of the chapters that are released are not guaranteed to be good.
-The translation will either catch up with the official or the translation will become completed(In this situation you need to have a vote on which Novel you will translate next depending on what the subscribers want in which the Translator may or may not like)
-There might be trust issues between the Subscribers and the Translator.(To fix these trust issues the Translator can have a grand release for all the chapters for that week on the day the Translator gets the subscription fee from all the Subscribers)
-There probably won’t be anymore thanks for chapters by the subscribers because they are paying for the chapters, and there won’t be any more donors so no thanks for them either.
-There are probably more but I can’t think of any.

“-Get fast and consistent releases”. cough* compared to what? 7 chap a week seems fewer than the current 2-3+ chap a day no matter how I add it.
“when the subscriber amount reaches 500 then it can be 9 chapters every week)” … you need to broaden your horizon; what if it hits 1000+? 5000 subs? 90 chap a week… I want to see you keep up with that. now I see why most translators smart enough to keep current system. When life hits them they don’t need pressure of translating 90 chap a week. They can do more if they make time and less if busy. That’s the reason lot of translators use the current system. Simple and hassle free.
***With internet it is impossible to no have leaks.
FYI. Assuming current donation can yield ONLY 2 chap a day… That’s over $700 a week. Yet you suggest a chap a day for $420… But yea. Just wanted to point out some flaws and why no other reasonable translators attempted this “brilliant” idea yet.

That 2-3 chapters a day isn’t consistent and requires an single individual to pay more than others

        Liked by 1 person

That’s the profundity of it. Rather than having more subs than you can supply, like my 90 ch a week over exaggeration. You have people donating IF they want faster release. More popular tend to lend towards more donation which yields more chapters. If it’s not consistent, that just means not too much people know of this LN yet or its only good enough for soso chapters a day. This system runs by itself. If translator wish to take a break, there would be pool of donation there until he rdy to translate more. Unlike sub system where you expect translator to keep up and overwork because the money flowing in is “consistent.”

This isn’t even a comment LMAO this is a freaking plan proposal bro/sis. This is insane but gl with it. As for the group, we promise the best quality we can. We don’t really rush if we know we can’t finish all the donatoins. We do the best we can with the time we got but we try not to decrease in quality of the work. We might lose a bit because of being exhausted though lol …

Hello Monster, I am Cikane and one of the translators of this project. This will be the first time for me to post on this website. To begin, I would like to thank you for your support and your effort of coming up with such a brilliant idea. Second, I will have to sadly object your system like Chen Chang Sheng objected Qiu Shan Jun’s proposal. Our translation group currently consists of four students who translate and edit on their free time. This project started out of sole interest as a tiny link on a wuxia website and now have its own page with more than one and half million views! (Which may not be a lot, but is still quite impressive for me)

Now I will talk about the reasons why this system wouldn’t work for us as a group. As I have mentioned earlier, we are students going into college. The school life will probably take up most of our time and we may not put out the same quantity of work we are now. As of yesterday and today, I have translated about four to five chapters myself, and as a group we have put out 15 chapters this week. On average I use one and half hour to translate a chapter, sometimes more if certain context needs explanation and I add translator note in the end. Our translators also spend time to correct my horrendous grammar and awkward sentences. (This comment is not edited, therefore mistakes will occur)

This means that I am not sure myself if I can put out one chapter a day for your suggested subscription system. During the previous school year I sometimes skipped translating due to studying or socializing. Although this may not result solely from busy schedule, because lazy personality also comes into play. I usually place gaming above translating and only start the work load after I finish my daily missions. (Currently on Maplestory YMCKBN server, ign: Grkane. Contact me if you want spoilers or bother me for more chapters to ease that cliffhanger)

All jokes aside. You mentioned in your comment that “we MUST find a way to prevent the subscriber chapters from being leaked,” which will be impossible for us to do. Although I trust the readers’ own responsibility of not letting out the subscribed chapters, I really don’t want to take the joy of reading away from the people who didn’t subscribe. Matter of fact, I myself is a free rider of the work of the original author, Mao Ni.

Speaking of Mao Ni, he’s not really the fast typing authors Tang San or Tian Can Tu Dou are. (Authors of Douluo Dalu and Battle Through the Heavens respectively). He tries his best to put out seven chapters a day but he’s a busy man in real life. He signed contracts for Ze Tian Ji and made it into online games and anime/cartoon. (Shout out to the release of third episode of Ze Tian Ji anime!) Therefore sometimes he could only put out perhaps four chapters a day. In this rate, if we are going seven chapters or more per week, I’m afraid that we will catch up to the latest chapter very quickly, and what should we do next? It will be hard to determine because if we do begin another book, other works may not be interesting to the readers and the subscription will stop.

All in all, due to our lack of resources and manpower, I believe this subscription system would be unsuitable for us. However, I still think your idea is brilliant and you should propose it to other larger translation groups who are capable of doing so and commit to such system.

Last but not least, I thank you again for your support of our work and your idea.

You really should stop this. This is a fan translation they don’t own the rights to the novel. If anyone with no brain try sell subscription on a published novel the amount of law suit that will happen will destroy them. Not just them also everyone else translating for fun to prevent further copyright. Stop posting this, it’s a very dumb idea.

Much disappointment. Always put games > LN. Translations can still come even if no one donates, but you can’t play the game without buying it unless you got connections but i am assuming you don’t
